30-Hour Cohort: Child Abuse & Maltreatment & Adverse Childhood Experiences

This training focuses on definitions of abuse and maltreatment and how to identify physical and
behavioral indicators associated with abuse and maltreatment. Participants practice evaluating
case scenarios to determine reasonable cause to suspect if abuse or maltreatment has or is
occurring and learn how to complete reporting requirements to fulfill mandatory requirements.
This training meets the following OCFS training topic area(s):
Target Participants: Licensed Family Child Care Providers, Assistants & Legally-exempt
child care providers.

(7) Statutes and regulations pertaining to child day care
(8) Statutes and regulations pertaining to child abuse and maltreatment
(9) Education and information on the identification, diagnosis and prevention of
shaken baby syndrome
Adverse Childhood Experiences
Overview of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’s) and the demographic data provided to
inform audience of the long-term effects of trauma in young children, including physiological
and neurobiological impact. Presentation will provide research on trauma and its impact the
behavioral responses in young children. This presentation will include activities, small group
discussions, and reflection to increase audience’s understanding of ACEs and how it impacts
young children.
