30-Hour Cohort Course in Chinese: Thematic Unit Lesson Planning: Enhancing Learning Through Arts

Children learn greatest when they are interested in what they are learning. A thematic unit is a
cohesion of lessons and scaffolding methods in which various areas of curriculum are
connected together and integrated within a theme. It organizes learning by creating
connections, which is how our little ones learn best. In this training, Providers will learn the
strategies for designing and implementing an interesting thematic unit to keep children
engaged, and increase their interest and developmental growth. Providers will also learn to
develop an integrated unit plan for teaching a thematic unit that includes hands-on art
activities.
This training meets the following OCFS training topic area(s):
(1) Principles of childhood development, focusing on the developmental stages of the age
groups for which the program provides care
(3) Child day care program development
