Sumon Chin, Po-Ling Ng and Gai Mui inducted into “Women in Human Services Hall of Fame”

CPC’s Sumon Chin, Director of Asian Child Care Resource & Referral /Deputy Director, Manhattan Community Services (https://www.strongnonprofitsny.org/human-services-hall-of-fame-2019#sumon), Gia Mui, Director of Multi-Social Services, and Po-Ling Ng, Director of Project Open Door Senior Center were nominated to the Women in Human Services Hall of Fame and attended an award ceremony in Albany on Tuesday, March 5th. In honor of Women’s History Month, the Strong Nonprofits for a Better New York campaign recognized over 70 phenomenal women leaders from across the State.

In addition to the ceremony, the honorees and attending CPC staff, including Judy Ah-Yune, Ben Deng, Jessica Chen, and Binh Luu, participated in an important legislative effort organized by Strong Non Profits for a Better New York. The effort included the chance to visit the offices of state officials, including Senators Alessandra Biaggi, Brian Kavanagh, Roxanne Persaud, and Jessica Ramos, and Assembly Members Mathylde Frontus, Latoya Joyner, Félix W. Ortiz, Karines Reyes, and Michaelle C. Solages to advocate on three budget priorities:

–         The reinstatement of $140 million for COLA (cost of living adjustment) so that salary increases can be provided to staff.

–         To include $100 million for capital funding for nonprofit infrastructure addressing technology upgrades, building repairs and other needs that are not covered by current contracts.

–         Fund the minimum wage increase for State contracts by $25 million so that nonprofits can cover for the current unfunded mandate.
